Passwords to Reinvention

Passwords

Why is there no standard protocol for changing passwords?

Commute

Why don’t we develop a norm that if you commute, you work fewer hours, to make up the time spent in commute? It would have to be limited: hardly anyone could afford to pay people to commute four hours in the morning, then immediately turn around and go back home for the next four hours.

Tradeoffs

Instead of the Iron Triangle — “good, fast, cheap” — should we talk about the Iron Bar? “Good or fast, pick any one.”

Conservation

Is there a Conservation of Meaning law? When some words become semantically bleached, do others need to gain meaning to compensate? What is the opposite of semantic bleaching?

Reinvention

Why do people keep reinventing package managers?
